Notarial Unit - certification of signatures - authentications and apostilles

The Notarial Unit is located at Level 13, Casselden Place, with the Passports Office. Overseas governments sometimes need proof that Australian documents are genuine before they will accept them. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will certify that a signature, stamp or seal on a document is genuine by checking it against a specimen held on file, and stamping the document with an authentication or apostille.   If you have any further questions, email notarialsvic@dfat.gov.au or call us on 9221 5443.

Visitors, Events and Consultations

The Victoria State Office has an active program of events and consultations on topical trade and foreign policy issues in Melbourne and regional Victoria. These feature guest speakers, including Australian Ambassadors/High Commissioners, high profile overseas visitors and experts from the department in Canberra. The seminars are intended to give participants insights into other countries, Australia's relations with these countries, their markets and additional understanding of global and regional issues affecting Australia's trade and investment performance. Particular emphasis is being given at present to consultation with business on Australia’s international trade negotiations.

Working towards lower barriers for Australian exporters is an important objective for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Department's ability to advance the interests of Australian exporters depends in large part on the information provided to it by the business community. If exporters encounter barriers in getting your exports onto foreign markets, they should advise this office by contacting a business liaison officer on (03) 9221 5450 or 9221 5436 or fax (03) 9221 5455.
